EMPLOYMENT

Peace Corps (7th Grade)

The Peace Corps program is a way for 7th graders to volunteer at camp and gain leadership skills. This year the Peace Corps will have an assigned Counselor who will oversee the group. There will therefore be a $100 fee for each Peace Corps member who is accepted, a portion of which will be paid to that Peace Corps member upon completion of the summer. (Details will be shared with families of those who are accepted; Financial Support is available and your ability to pay should not hinder your application).

The Peace Corps will have duties to fulfill each day, and should expect to have busy days that may include group games and tasks, physical work around the camp, and time working with younger campers. When possible, the focus will be given to group activities that foster skills necessary for working with children, that develop leadership, and that benefit the natural environment.

Peace Corps must APPLY by March 1st, and will be notified of acceptance by March 21st. Applications will be accepted after March 1 if space allows, however we expect this group to fill quickly. The Peace Corps should apply by emailing director@missbettysdaycamp.org. Emails may be sent from a parents email address if necessary, BUT MUST BE COMPLETED ENTIRELY BY THE APPLICANT THEMSELVES.

Please include the following:

  • First and last name
  • Address
  • Dates available (Camp will operate from June 20th to July 29th).
  • Previous Miss Betty's Camper experience.
  • Please explain why you would like to be a member of the Peace Corps.
  • Please share an experience that shows that you are a hard worker and a kind person.
  • You may include any other information such as special interests or skills you could share with the campers or other Peace Corps (e.g. sports, crafts, hobbies, etc.), or any other experience you have in working with children. (Optional).
  • No references required. References will be requested if necessary.

COUNSELORS AND STAFF

Deadline March 31, 2022

At Miss Betty's Day Camp we are looking for high-energy, engaging individuals who enjoy interacting with children and nature. The best counselors at Miss Betty's are open-minded, positive individuals who enjoy getting to know the campers, are willing to interact with campers on their level, whatever that may be, and encourage campers to be themselves. We hire individuals who have completed 8th grade and older. If you are interested in working at Miss Betty's Day Camp please send us an application (written in the style of a formal letter) to director@missbettysdaycamp.org. You can email us directly using the email link at the bottom of the homepage. Please include the following in your application:

  • First and last name
  • A photo of yourself (NOT REQUIRED but it helps me to match a name with a face when considering your camp experience)
  • Address
  • Grade to be completed as of June 2022, or current occupation.
  • Dates available (Camp will operate from June 20th to July 29th).
  • Previous Miss Betty's Camper experience.
  • Previous Miss Betty's Counselor experience.
  • Please explain what would make you a great counselor at Miss Betty's. You may include any special interests or skills you could share with the campers (e.g. sports, crafts, hobbies, etc.).
  • Share any previous work experience you have in relation to working with children, or that is otherwise relevant to your work at camp.
  • No resumes or references required. References will be requested if necessary.
  • All applications must be typed in a word processor document (Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.) and attached to an email. Applications will NOT be considered if written in the body of an email. Professionalism matters.
  • All applications must be sent from the applicant's own email account. Being responsible for young lives is a serious task. Being trusted enough and responsible enough to manage your own email account is something required of a Counselor.

We are looking for Junior Counselors, Head Counselors for boys and girls tents at each grade level, and Specialty staff such as Woodshop, Art, Environmental Exploration, Clay, and Games. For the first time we will be hiring a staff position to oversee the Peace Corps and run additional activities.

Applications for all positions at camp will be accepted starting February 1st and the application process will close March 31st. You will receive a confirmation once it is submitted. If you do not receive a confirmation email please resend your application or contact Allegra Churchill (camp director) directly at (415) 713-6343. We will make our decisions by April 19th.

Make sure you have completed your application carefully and correctly. Competition for Counselor positions is high. We want to make sure everyone who is interested has a chance to be hired at camp. Any application that is not completed carefully will be discarded so please make sure to double check your applications!
